Here’s the Truth
Nigeria government has not cancel JAMB.
Recently, rumors have been spreading like wildfire across social media, claiming that the Nigerian government has canceled the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exam. If you’re a student preparing for university, polytechnic, or college of education admissions, you might be panicking or wondering if all that study time is wasted. Let’s clear the air.
JAMB Is Still Active
Despite what some posts are saying, JAMB has not been canceled. The Federal Ministry of Education, led by Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, released an official statement on October 16, 2025, confirming that JAMB remains the statutory body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all Nigerian tertiary institutions.
In other words, students still need to take the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to gain admission.

Where Did the Rumors Come From?
The confusion seems to have started from a press release dated October 13, 2025. The statement outlined some updates to admission requirements, including adjustments to subject combinations and credit pass requirements.
These changes were not a cancellation. They were aimed at making the admissions process more equitable and accessible, but they do not remove JAMB’s central role in admissions.
What You Should Do Now.
- Keep Preparing for UTME: Your preparation time is not wasted. JAMB is still the main route for tertiary admissions.
- Check Official Sources: Always rely on official announcements from the Federal Ministry of Education or JAMB’s official website.
- Stay Calm: Social media often spreads misinformation. Take time to verify before believing or sharing news about education.
The JAMB exam remains an essential step for all prospective Nigerian tertiary students. While reforms may tweak requirements here and there, the exam itself is very much alive. Don’t let rumors distract you from preparing for your future.
