FUPRE Allegedly Offering Admissions While post-UTME Is Ongoing

The admission season at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), has been full of excitement, tension, and confusion. Many candidates are surprised to find that while the university is still conducting its supplementary Post-UTME screening, some students are already celebrating admission offers. The news has spread fast across WhatsApp, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter), turning into one of the hottest topics of the season.

In late August 2025, FUPRE announced its supplementary post-UTME registration. The notice, published on the school’s portal and shared by education blogs, confirmed that registration would stay open until early September. Screening was scheduled for September 15 and 16, 2025. Only candidates who scored 170 and above in the UTME could apply and make payment for the fee. Clearly, this showed the admission process was still very much active.

Normally, Nigerian university admissions follow three stages. After JAMB, schools invite candidates for Post-UTME or screening. From the results, they release a merit list — the first batch of students who scored well and met all requirements. Next comes supplementary screening, which helps fill spaces in departments with vacancies. Finally, a supplementary list follows. Every genuine offer must appear on JAMB CAPS, which remains the final authority on admission.

Admissions Showing Up Early

Around the same time that FUPRE opened supplementary registration, several candidates began posting screenshots of their JAMB CAPS dashboards showing an “Admitted” status. Others claimed they received confirmation messages about their admission. This immediately caused panic among those who had not yet been screened.

The big question was simple: how could FUPRE be admitting students while still collecting Post-UTME applications?

The truth is, universities sometimes upload a merit batch or Direct Entry candidates even while supplementary applications remain open. Many federal universities have done this before. What makes candidates anxious is timing. To someone still waiting, seeing others admitted feels unfair, even though both processes can run side by side.

The bigger problem is misinformation. Social media thrives on half-truths, and admission season attracts plenty of rumours. Some candidates may be reporting genuine CAPS updates, while others spread fake news or fall for scams.

A Direct Entry applicant getting admitted does not mean a Post-UTME applicant has been ignored. Experts keep warning students to rely only on JAMB CAPS and ignore claims that cannot be verified. Unfortunately, many candidates still panic because of what they see online.

Right now, two facts stand clear. First, FUPRE’s supplementary screening will end in mid-September. Second, some students have already seen admission offers, most likely from the merit list or Direct Entry. Both realities can exist together. Universities process admissions in batches, and not everyone gets admitted at the same time.

What Candidates Should Do

If you applied to FUPRE, the best advice is patience. Keep checking the official Post-UTME portal at utme.fupre.edu.ng for updates, and monitor your JAMB CAPS regularly. If your status has not changed there, you are not yet admitted — no matter what people claim online.

Most importantly, never pay anyone who promises to “secure” admission. Genuine offers come only from the university and JAMB.

The talk about FUPRE offering admission while the post-UTME is ongoing is partly true, but it is not a scandal. It reflects the overlap between the release of a merit batch and the continuation of supplementary screening. Candidates should stay focused, keep their documents ready, and wait for the outcome.

Admission season often feels messy, but the process still works. If you have done your part, your turn will come. Remember: no admission is valid until JAMB CAPS confirms it.
